Adipex diet pill is another sympathomimetic amine, which is likened to an amphetamine. It is also known as an "anorectic" or "anorexigenic" drug. Adipex stimulates the central nervous system (nerves and brain), which increases your heart rate and blood pressure and decreases your appetite. It is one of the more effective diet pills available on the market but only with a prescription.
Adipex is also known in other brand names which include Bontril, Zantryl, Fastin, Oby-Cap, Panshape M, Pro-Fast HS, Teramine, Pro-Fast SA, Phentride, Pro-Fast SR, Ionamin, Obephen, Oby-Trim and Phentercot.
Since it is similar to amphetamines, the action of Adipex is not far from those of amphetamines. It affects the brain in such a way that it stimulates the sympathetic nervous system. This action to the nerve and brain increases one's heart rate and blood pressure. What is being believed at is that Adipex's appetite suppressing action is from the combination of this action on the nervous system with other metabolic effects that are still not known.
As an appetite suppressant in treating obesity it is taken as a diet and exercise supplement for short-term use. It may be prescribed if someone fails to progress on a diet and exercise program. Also, it is recommended if one's obesity is caused by an eating dissorder, without any abnormality in his or her hormones or metabolism. Alongside with its being taken as an appetite suppressant, it is used with behavior therapy to manage obesity.
Before using Adipex
Deciding to use a Adipex, the risks of taking Adipex must be weighed against the good it may do. (see side effects) This is a decision you and your doctor will make. We do not recommend taking any diet pill if your BMI is not 27 or higher. For appetite suppressants, the following should be considered:
Allergies: Inform your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to this medicine or amphetamine, dextroamphetamine, ephedrine, epinephrine, isoproterenol, metaproterenol, methamphetamine, norepinephrine, phenylephrine, phenylpropanolamine, pseudoephedrine, terbutaline, or other appetite suppressants. Also tell your Doctor if you have had allergic reactions to any other substances, such as foods, preservatives, or dyes.
Diet: You are required to follow a reduced calorie diet while taking an appetite suppressant in order to lose weight. Much of your weight loss will be a reult of the reduction of calories. Also, in order to keep the lost weight from returning, changes in diet and exercise must be continued after the weight has been lost.
Pregnancy: If a pregnant woman takes this medicine in high doses or more often than the doctor has directed, it may cause withdrawal symptoms in the newborn baby. Also, medicines similar to sympathomimetic appetite suppressants can cause birth defects in the newborn baby if a pregnant woman takes them in high doses. Before taking this medicine, make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or if you may become pregnant. Best advice is to refrain from taking these if your are or might be pregnant.
Breast-feeding: Diethylpropion and benzphetamine pass into breast milk. It is not known if other sympathomimetic appetite suppressants pass into breast milk. However, use of sympathomimetic appetite suppressants during breast-feeding is not recommended. It may cause harmful effects in nursing babies.
Children: Studies of sympathomimetic appetite suppressants have been done only in adult patients, and there is no specific information comparing use of these in children with use in other age groups. The use of these medicines by children younger than 16 years of age is not recommended.
Other Medicines: Although certain medicines should not be used together at all, in other cases two different medicines may be used together even if an interaction might occur. In these cases, your doctor may want to change the dose, or other precautions may be necessary. When you are taking appetite suppressants, it is especially important that your docotor be made aware of any medication you are taking.
Adipex Side Effects:
Taking Adipex together with other diet medications such as fenfluramine (Phen-Fen) or dexfenfluramine (Redux) can cause a rare fatal lung disorder called pulmonary hypertension. Do not take Adipex with any other diet medications without your doctors advice.
Adipex can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Avoid drinking alcohol. It can increase some of the side effects of Adipex. Adipex may be habit-forming and should be used only by the person it was prescribed for. Keep track of how many pills have been used from each new bottle of this medicine. Adipex is a drug of abuse and you should be aware if any person in the household is using this medicine improperly or without a prescription.
You may have withdrawal symptoms, such as depression and extreme tiredness, when you stop using Adipex after using it over a long period of time. Do not stop using Adipex suddenly without first talking to your doctor. Y
